Functional description
When the water passes through the micro-channels of the activated carbon, humus particles, gases, odours and colouration, chlorimides and other colloidal substances are adsorbed on the carbon’s huge surface area, up to 1000 m2.
Once the surface of the micro-channels has become saturated, the spent carbon is replaced with new medium.
Backwashing is performed at least once a week to remove larger particles that do not pass through the micro-channel openings and thus inhibit adsorption; the carbon bed is also loosened up to prevent channel formation.
This can be done manually or with time- or volume- controlled backwashing.
